This post's title refers to origami, not poker, though that could be a future blog topic (I've discovered I actually don't suck at Hold 'Em, and it's kinda fun when I don't stress about losing).
Back on point: In a fit of new-year optimism, I bought myself an origami-a-day calendar (50 percent off!). How've I been doing with it? Well, it's the 17th day of the year, and the photo above is my output so far. Hey, the dog counts as two (head + body). That's a fox on the right, and the middle thing is ... supposed to be a nightingale. It's been pretty fun so far, although I think it'll have to be a weekend-only thing. I don't have the patience to fold, crease and repeat every day.
This is one of my attempts to cultivate a legitimate hobby. I've never really had one (knitting, no; stamp collecting, no; organized sports, good lord, no) -- and even I'll admit that TV watching doesn't count. (Oh, but I'm so good at it!) Not that I see myself becoming The Girl Who Does Origami. But it's doing something, making something.
I'm gonna wrap up this post now before I write something else in parentheses. Man, I really have worked in the features department too long ...
